An incredible group of quiet achievers – the Moree Renal Support Committee – has once again presented a sizeable cheque to Moree District Hospital.
Earlier this month, the hard-working committee, headed up by president Will Sabine, proudly donated $57,540.83 for the purchase of a new ultrasound machine, using money raised from meat raffles held each Wednesday at Moree Services Club.
Committee member Kylie Driscoll said the Moree Renal Support Committee has raised more than half-a-million dollars since 2001.
“And it’s all due to the ongoing support of Moree Services Club patrons for their purchases of raffle tickets every Wednesday night and generous community donations through both the Regional Australia Bank and general population,” Kylie said.
“We as a committee are once again humbled to be able to donate to a great cause and the ongoing supply for much-needed equipment to service our local and regional people.”
Over the past 22 years the Moree Renal Support Committee has provided such goods as patient chairs, emergency monitors, TV units, scales and refrigerators.
The Moree Renal Support Committee was formed by Will Sabine’s late father, Sammy Sabine, in 2002 and in the following 20 years has raised nearly $600,000 for Moree District Hospital.
“We raise anywhere up to $900 each week at the raffles and this means we can easily raise more than $40,000 in a year,” Will said.
“We have people that make small donations throughout the year as well – Moree is a very generous community,” he smiled.
Moree townsfolk are encouraged to support the raffles, held each Wednesday afternoon at Moree Services Club.
By supporting these raffles, patrons are also supporting a life-saving service at Moree District Hospital.
