David Dewar is the Narrabri Bowling Club’s 2023/24 season consistency singles champion after he beat Tony Redman in a close game at the John McNamara Owen Campey Green on Saturday.

Dewar got off to a great start and led 40-20 after six ends. He continued to lead until the 18th end when Redman scored a nine to take a 93-87 lead.

Redman led 121-119 after the 24th end, but Dewar then scored a nine on the 25th end to go ahead 128-122.

Dewar went on to win the match 150-134.

Meanwhile, the first two games of the Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club’s 2023 season club pairs competition were played last Thursday, July 20.

Rhonda Fitzgerald and Lyn Tuckey beat Glennis Godden and Heather Caton 21-11.

Godden and Caton led 11-9 after 12 ends but failed to score on the last five ends.

In the other match, Sue Solomon and Debbie Gleeson downed Janice Foxe and Di Chessells 19-14.

Foxe and Chessells led 11-8 after 11 ends, but Solomon and Gleeson scored a three on the 12th to tie the game up at 11-all.

That kick-started a brilliant run that saw Solomon and Gleeson score eight shots to three across the last six ends to win the game 19-14.

Social bowls was also played last Thursday.

There was one game of three-bowl pairs, which saw Helen Woodward and Marie Redman downed Ronnie Dewar and Berice Eather 22-10.

There were two games of three-bowl triples, as Trish Allison, Mary Wheeler and Doug Mackereth defeated Dawn Armstrong, Janet Coleman and Bruce Tomlinson 20-9, and Lyn Wedesweiler,

Jan Etheridge and Yvonne Hardman beat Denise Wall, Carol Demamiel and Kay Carolan 19-17.

There will be no ladies’ club games played today due to the number of players being away competing at the State Championships.

Social bowls will be played from 9.30am.
