Boggabri and District Rugby League Football Club hosted its final home fixture of the 2023 Group 4 Rugby League season on Saturday.
It was ladies’ day at Jubilee Oval, and the club’s ladies team celebrated in style as they scored a 34-20 victory against Moree Boars.
Cassidy Morley was at her brilliant best as she dominated the contest to finish with 22 points after crossing for a hat-trick of tries and also kicking five goals.
Her teammates Chloe Davis, Belle Byrne and Blye Grover also scored a try each.
The win was the Boggabri ladies’ fourth of the season as they moved to eight competition points.
They cannot finish any higher or lower than sixth place this year, but they will be hoping to end the 2023 season on a high when they travel to Kitchener Park this Saturday to take on their local rivals Gunnedah in the 14th and final round of the regular season.
Gunnedah is third after defeating the Narrabri Bluebirds 34-0 at Collins Park on Sunday.
Boggabri’s first grade side suffered a heartbreaking loss on Saturday as their hopes of playing finals footy in 2023 are now all gone.
The Kangaroos led for most of the match and were ahead 26-16 at half-time as they looked to become the second team this season to beat the Moree Boars.
However, the Moree men came from behind to win 38-34.
Gun centres Robert Doolan and Kaylan Murray both bagged doubles against Moree and their teammates Ashley White, Dylan Lake and Matt Avendano all scored a try each.
Doolan also kicked three goals.
Like their ladies’ league tag team, the Kangaroos can no longer finish any higher or lower than sixth place in 2023.
The reserve grade game was also a close contest at Jubilee Oval as the Boggabri men went down 28-24.
Chris Anderson scored two tries for the hosts and Niall Blewitt, Lachlan Chandler and Toby Morris crossed for one each.
Anderson also kicked two goals.
The Kangaroos are currently ranked seventh on the reserve grade ladder but can finish sixth in 2023 if they beat Gunnedah this Saturday.
