The Nosh Food and Drink Festival is only a few weeks away with the very popular Great Australian Cheesecake Competition and Australian Regional Homebrew Championships making their return to the festival schedule.

The committee are currently seeking entries for both competitions.

Nosh president Kate Kahl said the cheesecake competition is a crowd favourite that always delivers an impressive selection of baked and unbaked cheesecakes prepared by local cheesecake enthusiasts.

“Both categories make a return in 2023. There are no age restrictions, everyone is welcome to enter,” she said. “Competition sponsors, Jansson & Co and Sophie Hansen are generously donating the prizes which include $500 cash for the winners of both categories and a signed Sophie Hansen cookbook”.

Entries are open now and can be submitted on the cheesecake competition page of the Nosh website. Entrants will then be emailed a unique identification number to be used when delivering their cheesecakes on Friday, August 25, keeping entrants anonymous during the judging process until the winners are announced on Saturday during the festival.

The Australian Regional Homebrew Championships return to Nosh for the third time. The competition has been extremely well received at the 2017 and 2019 Nosh festivals with entries being received from far and wide.

Kate said Nosh is pleased to have the assistance of the Narrabri Hospitality Group in organising the competition.

“Our committee is very excited to be running the Homebrew Championships again and we are thankful to have Jack Pixley, manager of the Namoi Hotel coming on board to assist us with the ‘technical’ side of all things brewing. We know there are several homebrewers out there locally and we hope they won’t be too shy or humble to enter!”

There are three categories in this year’s championships – pale ale/pacific ale; pilsner/lager; or stout/porter/dark. If you’re interested in submitting a brew (or a few!) to this year’s competition, simply fill in the form on the homebrew championships page of the Nosh website.

Online entries for both competitions close Friday, August 18, 2023.

Nosh Food and Drink Festival is on Saturday, August 26 from 10.30am to 5pm, on the shared pathway beside the Narrabri Creek (behind Hogan and Leitch Ovals). The festival is a free, family event.
