The Narrabri Show Society has set its sights on the 2024 show following the election of a new committee on Monday evening.

President Ian Schweitzer reflected on the success of the 2023 show at the annual general meeting and thanked the volunteers who made the event a success.

At the meeting, members heard that gate numbers had increased significantly on the previous show in 2022 which had been hampered by wet weather on the Saturday afternoon.

In a report tabled to members, vice president Bec Cope said the fine weather and a larger sideshow alley had a positive impact on crowd numbers.

Outgoing secretary Emily Brookes described her year on the show committee as a wonderful experience.

Ms Brookes successfully oversaw the growth of the rodeo and hopes to see it continue to flourish in the future.

Following the reports, Max Pringle OAM conducted the election of office bearers for the 2024 Narrabri Show.

Mr Schweitzer was re-elected as president for a second year, with Wendy McNair and Bec Cope to serve as vice presidents.

Committee members elected at the meeting were Sam Coppin, Steve Tomlinson, Robyn Trindall, Rhonda Haire and Dylan Smith.

The positions of secretary and treasurer remain vacant. The show society will investigate options regarding these roles.

Narrabri Show patrons will remain the same, being Max Pringle OAM, John Melbourne, Cheryl Pawley and Janet Dampney.

Bec Cope, Kevin Lawty and Fiona Orman were nominated for life membership of the society and accepted the honour.

They will officially receive their life membership pins at the opening ceremony for the 2024 Narrabri Show, to be held on the first weekend in May.

Following the annual general meeting, the first meeting for the 2024 show was held.

The position of ring steward has been filled by Rhonda Haire and former long-standing stud cattle steward Janine McGowan has agreed to fill the short-term vacancy in the role.

Cheryl Hennessy has been welcomed as the baby show steward.

The society is still seeking people to take on steward roles in show jumping, wood chopping and novelty events.
