Wee Waa Show Society members have been hard at work: sweeping floors, cleaning stands, constructing stalls, and putting the finishing touches on this year’s spectacular show weekend.
The Wee Waa Show kicks off this Friday and residents are being encouraged to invite their family and friends to one of the district’s most popular events.
“I am very excited about the upcoming show, it’s coming together,” said Wee Waa Show society president Gary Hibbens, who joined an army of dedicated committee members at the showground working bee on the weekend.
“I’m most excited about the return of the siphon pipe starting competition, we think it’s roughly 25 years since it was last held, so it’s very exciting to bring that back.
“We’ve also put together an agricultural and earthmoving display.
“There’s a lot of exciting new things happening including the meat smoking competition, which has also got me very excited.
“All the traditional things are back this year too – the pet show, Wee Waa’s Got Talent, the woodchop and, of course, everything in the pavilion and sideshow alley.
“Plenty of entertainment and plenty going on for the kids during the day as well. The show has always been a special event for Wee Waa, it brings the community together. It’s an event everybody in the community can enjoy and it’s the opportunity that we all get-together and celebrate our local community and the industries and talents of the district.”
Readers would be familiar with Francis Drysdale’s successes at Sydney Royal Easter Show but there’s no way he’d miss the Wee Waa Show.
“Our country show is special because it keeps the town together and keeps the community active. We have got a pavilion full of local talent, we’ve got the campdraft, horses, horticulture, you’ve got the school entries, photography, fine arts, produce, needlework,” said Mr Drysdale.
Two of the most anticipated events are back – on Friday night, the winners of the Young Woman competition will be announced and the much-loved baby show is sure to attract an adoring crowd on Saturday.
