Lisa Pillar and Eva Sadler prevailed in Saturday afternoon’s Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club’s pairs final at the Narrabri Bowling Club after winning their way through to the decider that morning.
Pillar and Sadler challenged Mary Wheeler and Kay Carolan in their semi-final clash and prevailed 23-12 after 20 ends of play.
They won five of the first six ends in that match to establish an early eight shots to two advantage, and after that they never led by less than three shots during the remainder of the contest.
That victory saw them qualify for the final to take on Dawn Armstrong and Val Falkiner, who had already secured a spot in the decider after winning a semi-final match last month.
Armstrong and Falkiner scored a three on the first end to take an early lead, but Pillar and Sadler scored put together a three-end run to go ahead seven shots to three after four ends.
Armstrong and Falkiner then won three of the next four ends to reduce their deficit to two shots, and after trailing 14-7 at the 11-end mark, they were behind only 16-11 after 14 ends.
However, Pillar and Sadler scored nine shots to nothing across the next four ends to lead 25-11 with three ends to play.
Armstrong and Falkiner scored five shots on the 19th end as they had a miracle come-from-behind victory in sight, but Pillar and Sadler scored a single shot on the 20th end to make the score 26-16 and the two sides shook hands and called game.
While those matches kick-started spring for the lady bowlers, winter was farewelled last Thursday when two club singles games were played.
Helen Woodward beat Di Chessells 25-4 while Kay Carolan outscored Marie Redman 25-16.
There was also social bowls played on Thursday, with Glennis Godden, and Bruce Tomlinson downing Trish Allison and Doug Mackereth 18-12 in three-bowl pairs, Jan Etheridge and Mary Wheeler drawing 14-all against Eva Sadler and Val Falkiner in three-bowls pairs, and Carol Demamiel playing swinging lead and with Lyn Wedesweiler and Yvonne Hardman beating Dawn Armstrong and Ronnie Dewar 21-20 in a thrilling match of triples.
There was also a club singles match played on Saturday, as Lorraine Scott downed defending champion Debbie Gleeson 25-14.
