The NSW government has released schematic designs of the $80 million Moree Hospital redevelopment.

The release of the concept designs follows the announcement of the project’s builders earlier this year.

BESIX Watpac was engaged by NSW Health following a competitive tender process.

Member for Northern Tableland, Adam Marshall said the project design was the next important milestone for the $80 million Moree Hospital, funded by the state government.

“The community and I have been eagerly awaiting the final new design and it’s great they’ve been finalised, with some key changes, in consultation with hospital staff,” Mr Marshall said.

“These designs include an artists’ impressions of what the new building will look like, how departments will connect within the hospital as well as the flow of staff, patients and visitors.

“The new Moree Hospital will have a new acute service building with an emergency department and operating theatres, increased bed numbers, a medical imaging department, maternity and inpatient unit, new pathology unit as well as a new main entry.

“The construction of a building on the existing hospital site will house the acute services and the existing hospital building will be refurbished to accommodate community health and outpatient services,” Mr Marshall said.

“The design illustrates a central courtyard, with a calming space for patients and visitors alike, while drawing on culturally appropriate features.

“The release of the concept plans and schematic designs is an exciting development for the community and we are now looking forward physical construction starting early next year.”

Prior to the appointment of the project builder, initial concept designs were released in July last year.

Known as the early design, the concept shows how each of the departments connect with each other, and flow of staff, patients and visitors.

Project designs and plans were then finalised in July this year.

The Moree Hospital redevelopment features a new acute services building, which will house the emergency department and operating theatres, medical imaging department, maternity, birthing and inpatient unit, pathology, and a new main entry and front of house.

The Moree Hospital project is among three major health infrastructure developments in the North West and New England regions.

Gunnedah and Glen Innes hospitals are also to receive multi-million-dollar redevelopments.

The entire Moree project is expected to be completed in 2025.
