Wee Waa United Football Club players recently swapped the field for the track, pounding the pavement to compete in the City2Surf, one of the world’s largest fun runs, for a good cause.
The spectacular city atmosphere and beautiful Bondi views weren’t the only reason Ashleigh Dudman, Olivia Bray, Vivian Sarau, Bethany Bray and Sarah Trevaskis took part in the iconic Sydney race, they also wanted to raise money for mental health organisation Beyond Blue.
The local sports stars formed the team ‘The Best in the North West’ for the 14-kilometre run and together they conquered the course’s famous ‘heartbreak hill’ challenge while having fun and raising awareness.
The team said every year more than 318,000 people contact Beyond Blue’s 24/7 support service for advice and referrals. That means on average the organisation receives 871 contacts every day. Every $48 ensures a phone call, email, or webchat is answered.
With three million people in Australia living with anxiety and depression and a growing demand for Beyond Blue’s services, the team strapped on their running shoes to rally vital funds.
The team thanked their supporters for the encouragement and kind donations.
