Narrabri’s fundraising Variety Bash participants Tracey Rex and Stuart Black have set their sights on a milestone of supporting the children’s charity.

The couple recently completed the 2023 NSW Variety Bash and are now looking forward to seeing next year’s event make a journey that is much closer to home.

For Tracey, the 2024 Variety Bash will mark her 21st bash while for Stuart it will be his 10th.

Tracey estimates in her almost two decades of taking part in the Variety Bash, she has raised close to $200,000 thanks to the support of the Narrabri community.

This year’s bash provided some new scenery for the seasoned Narrabri Variety Bash participants.

Visits were made to small schools along the bash journey and Tracey said she and Stuart enjoy the happiness the event brings to children.

Tracey and Stuart are hard to miss in their bright Super Mario-themed costumes.

At a stop in Echuca, Tracey who was decked out in her princess costume came across a little girl who quickly returned in her own princess costume.

“She was so excited,” Tracey said.

“There are so many special moments.

“We have a lot of fun. There was an impromptu dance of the Nutbush –that was really cool to see the characters and kids join in.”

Tracey and Stuart will now take part in a mini bash which will start in Muswellbrook, followed by lunch in Nundle and an overnight stop in Gloucester.

This bash is particularly good for newcomers as it gives people an opportunity to see what the bash experience is like at a smaller scale.

Next year’s bash, to be held in May, starts in Gunnedah and makes its way north to Warwick and Roma before returning to Newcastle via Mungindi, Moree, Mallawa and Mullaley.
