Narrabri Shire Council has announced the start of its new waste contract with JR & EG Richards (NSW) Pty Ltd.

The contract, which spans a decade, was formally accepted by council earlier this year, and signifies a continuation of the collaborative effort between Narrabri Shire, Moree Plains Shire and Gwydir Shire Councils to continue and enhance waste collection and processing services in the area.

The previous waste collection contract was held with Cleanaway Pty Ltd.

As this contract was set to expire at midnight on September 30, 2023, Narrabri Shire Council, in collaboration with Moree Plains Shire and Gwydir Shire Councils, initiated the process to secure a new, long-term solution for waste collection and processing.

The transition to the new waste management provider will be seamless, council said in a statement.

JR Richards trucks are already operational, and there will be no changes to the regular waste collection days across the shire.

This continuity ensures that residents will continue to enjoy reliable and efficient waste management services, council’s statement read.

“We are pleased to announce the commencement of our new waste management contract with JR Richards,” Narrabri Shire mayor Darrell Tiemens said.

“This partnership represents a significant step forward in our commitment to providing efficient and sustainable waste services to our community.

“I thank everyone involved in this thorough, independent assessment process.”
