Early voting for the Voice to Parliament referendum has started in Narrabri Shire, with a pre-poll centre established in the multi-purpose room of the Narrabri Aquatic Centre. The centre will be open until Friday.
The referendum is the first to be held in Australia in almost 20 years.
Voting in referendums is compulsory.
Voters will be asked to respond to a specific question relating to the recognition of Indigenous Australians in the constitution through a Voice to Parliament.
Voters have been reminded to write either ‘yes’ or ‘no’ on ballot papers next to the question ‘do you approve this proposed alteration?’.
On Saturday, polling centres will operate across the shire to enable voters to have their say.
Three voting stations will be setup in Narrabri, located at Narrabri Public School, Nurruby OOSH and St Lawrence’s Anglican Hall.
Additional booths will operate across the region at Wee Waa Public School, Boggabri Public School, Pilliga Public School, Bellata Memorial Hall, Baan Baa Community Hall and Burren Junction Public School.
