Narrabri Shire Council is seeking input from the community about crime and crime prevention.
Council has partnered with the Centre for Rural Criminology at the University of New England to find out what is important to the local community in regards to safety.
Mayor Darrell Tiemens said council’s current Crime Prevention Plan is now five years old and it was time to be updated.
“Council is committed to always improving community safety, but we need the community’s help to make sure we address all issues that are important to residents,” Cr Tiemens said.
“That’s why we are asking people right across the Shire to let us know what they think is important.
“How do you feel about safety? What are your experiences and concerns related to crime?”
Co-director of the Centre for Rural Criminology at the University of New England in Armidale, Dr Kyle Mulrooney said community input into developing crime prevention plans was essential.
“That’s why we are asking every resident to take a little time to think about what is important to them. What ideas do you have on preventing crime locally?” Dr Mulrooney said.
“The survey takes no more than 15 minutes to complete. The insights from local residents will lead to a robust crime prevention plan paving the way for a safer Narrabri.”
To contribute to the plan, residents should look out for a card in the mail which has a QR code leading directly to the survey. Alternatively, a hard copy of the survey can be collected from one of the shire’s libraries in Narrabri, Wee Waa and Boggabri.
A link to the survey can also be found on council’s website at www.narrabri.nsw.gov.au or on its social media channels. For assistance or to have a hard copy of the survey sent by mail, residents can call council on 6799 6866.
