The 2024 school captains for Narrabri High School were announced at the Year 12 Farewell assembly held on Friday, September 22 in the Betty Berriman Hall.

Lachlan Eather and Pearl Fuller were announced as 2024 school captains and were presented onstage with badges by their parents alongside vice captains George Bennett (absent from the assembly), and Kate Weekes; and prefects Mietta Smith, Maeve Harris, Kaitlin Barnes, Daniel Smith and Will Faris.

The proceedings began with a welcome to country delivered by Year 12 student Emjay Baker followed by the National Anthem sung by Year 12 student Bonnie Ballangarry and accompanied on the piano by music teacher Katherine Crosara.

An introduction to the morning’s events was given by Kate Weekes and Pearl Fuller.

Relieving principal Simon Warden addressed the 2023 Year 12 students with words of encouragement before they were called to the stage to receive their certificates.

Mr Warden spoke of the new stage of life with new paths ahead and new experiences to embrace.

He referred to William Shakespeare’s famous quote about life, “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players; they have their exits and their entrances.”

Shakespeare was referring to the best way to understand the social world – to view it as a stage.

As the final curtain falls on the duration of school days, as Shakespeare said: “Every stage of life lays the foundation for the next stage of life. Treasure each stage of life.”

Mr Warden encouraged the students to demonstrate confidence, courage, and to embrace every opportunity.

“If there is a setback, step off the stage and learn from that setback.

“The world is waiting for you to find your new stage, so forge your path with willpower and determination.”

Farewell speeches to the Year 12 group were made by Year 10 and 11 students Jackie Ham, Poppy Fuller, Pearl Fuller and Lachlan Eather.

The NHS Year 12 music group played the song Friend Like Me from the film Aladdin, sung by Bonnie Ballangarry and accompanied by bass guitar, trumpets, keyboard and drums.

Outgoing captains Jesse Weekes and Miranda Hamilton addressed the audience with profound and humorous advice offered to their successors before the announcement of the new 2024 captains, vice captains and prefects.

The Year 12 students departed the hall with a fanfare farewell of streamers and applause from proud family and friends.

We wish them well in their future endeavours.
