The 2023/24 speedway season is off to a flying start following Northwest Speedway Club Narrabri’s thrilling meeting at the WTC Group Speedway track on Saturday.
More than 70 cars were nominated across the eight divisions that ran at the event, with plenty of local drivers in action for a huge crowd to cheer on.
Northwest Speedway Club Narrabri vice-president Josiah Barnes advised that more than 450 spectators packed out the hill, and added that there would have been about 110 more people within the pit area.
The club’s president and local driver Glen Braithwaite told The Courier that it was an enjoyable event.
“The whole race meeting was pretty much a success,” Braithwaite said.
“We had good support from the local community, especially our sponsors, and great numbers on the hill. It’s great to see everybody get behind us.
“We had really good support from the race community as well. We had drivers come from all over the place. We had a few from Newcastle and Sydney come along,
“It was good quality racing and it was mostly clean.”
Braithwaite thanked everyone who was involved in making the event a success, especially the volunteers who took on roles during the night to ensure that everything ran smoothly.
The meeting was a memorable one for Narrabri junior Olivia Shoobert, who won her maiden feature race in the new stars division. The 12-year-old won her first heat and then placed fourth in the second and third in the third before taking out the big one.
