Local lady bowlers contest a thrilling club fours final

Local bowlers Lorraine Scott, Debbie Gleeson, Ronnie Dewar and Marie Redman are the Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club’s 2023 fours champions after prevailing by just one shot in a thrilling final on Saturday.

They challenged Lyn Wedesweiler, Dawn Armstrong, Val Falkiner and Lisa Pillar in the decider and scored a 24-23 victory.

Wedesweiler, Armstrong, Falkiner and Pillar scored three on the first end, and then Scott, Gleeson, Dewar and Redman managed a seven on the second end before going on to establish a comfortable 22-13 lead after 13 ends of play. However, they stayed on 22 shots for the next seven straight ends as Wedesweiler, Armstrong, Falkiner and Pillar fought back to come from behind and take the lead.

Down 23-22 with one end to play, Scott, Gleeson, Dewar and Redman scored a two on the last end to win the game 24-23.

In the semi-final of the Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club’s singles comp contested on Friday morning, Helen Woodward played perfect bowls and defeated Lisa Pillar 25-12.

Woodward led 7-5 after four ends, and by the 16th end, she led 17-12. Pillar was unable to score across the remaining five ends, while Woodward scored eight more shots to win the match on the 21st end.

She will now play against Lorraine Scott on Saturday, November 4, in the final.

Social bowls played last week on Thursday was a trophy day.

Winners were Rhonda Fitzgerald, Ronnie Dewar and Bruce Tomlinson who downed Glennis Godden, Marie Redman and Lyn Tuckey 16-15. They scored 10 points for the win and claimed 11 ends to finish on 21 total points.

In second place was the team of Lyn Wedesweiler, Yvonne Hardman and Doug Mackereth, who defeated Jan Etheridge, Helen Woodward and Kay Carolan 15-14, scoring 10 for the win and they won 10 ends to finish on 20.

In the third game, Trish Allison, Janice Foxe and Tony Redman beat Stewart Coleman, Gloria Campey and Di Chessells 17-13.
They scored 10 points for the win and won eight ends to finish on 18.

Social bowls will be played this Thursday, October 26.
