Zone 3 Bowls’ 2023/24 season men’s pennants campaign will begin later this month and both Wee Waa Bowling Club and Narrabri Bowling Club have announced their teams for the two opening rounds of their respective competitions.

The format of the new season has changed slightly from previous years, with clubs now required to field eight players across two teams of four for a match as opposed to 12 players across three teams of four.

Narrabri and Wee Waa will play against one another this season, with the two clubs placed in section one of division three alongside Lightning Ridge and Moree Services Club.

There are three sections in total in division three, with West Tamworth, Armidale Ex Services, Kootingal and South Tamworth making up section two, and two more South Tamworth teams, Manilla and Quirindi placed into section three.

Wee Waa Bowling Club will also line up in division four this season. They have been placed alongside two Moree Services Club teams and Lightning Ridge in section one.

There are four sections in total in division four, with section two being made up of Walcha, South Tamworth and West Tamworth, section three featuring Gunnedah, Werris Creek, Tamworth City and South Tamworth, and section four including Armidale Ex Services, Inverell RSM and Uralla.

Both divisions will see six rounds contested across three weekends in November, with rounds one and two on Saturday and Sunday, November 11 and 12, rounds three and four the following weekend, and rounds five and six on November 25 and 26.

The section winners will then meet in the division finals in December to play off for a spot at next year’s Bowls NSW state pennants playoffs in their respective divisions.

The only other division that will be contested by Zone 3 teams in the 2023/24 season is division two, which includes Inverell RSM, Gunnedah, South Tamworth and Lightning Ridge all playing in one section. Their matches have been scheduled to be played in December.

Narrabri Bowling Club and Wee Waa Bowling Club both recently named their teams to play in rounds one and two on November 11 and 12.

Wee Waa’s division three side will include the team of Steve Berger, Paul Andreassen, Peter Doring and Bruce Cowan, and the team of Dustyn Allen, Ty Baker, Jay Hall and Kevin Baker. They will play at home in the first two rounds when they host Lightning Ridge on the Saturday and then their Narrabri neighbours on the Sunday.

For Wee Waa’s division four side, Zack Doring, Chris Crutcher, Gary Nolan and Charlie Thompson make up one team, and Toby Reynolds, Phil Lawford, Clancy Hamilton and Graham Amos will combine for the other. They are away for both of their first two games, with a trip to Lightning Ridge on the Saturday and then to Moree on the Sunday.

The reserves for Wee Waa Bowling Club across both divisions include Hunter Doring, Steven Dewson, Kyne and Brock Allen and Peter Hennessy.

For Narrabri Bowling Club’s division three side, Trinity Kelly, David Dewar, Len Ryan and Tony Redman will form one team, and Kevin Baguley, Paul Crutcher, Larry Scott and Scott Dewar make up the other.

They will play at home in round one when they host Moree Services Club at the John McNamara Owen Campey Green on the Saturday, and they will then travel up the Kamilaroi Highway to Wee Waa Bowling Club the following day in round two.

Narrabri Bowling Club’s reserves include Ian Macmillan, Graham Rose, Bill Rosewarn, Steve Daskey, Richard Little and Stuart Coleman.
