Six volunteer organisations were recognised at the inaugural Community Financial Assistance Grants ceremony at Narrabri Shire Council chambers on Friday.
The valuable contribution of volunteers across Narrabri Shire was highlighted during a ceremony for recipients of council’s 2023-24 Community Financial Assistance Grants.
The official ceremony and deed signing for the first round of this new grant program saw $16,093 shared across six organisations:
Boggabri Business Chamber, Boggabri Pony Club, Boggabri Women’s Shed, Narrabri District Cricket Association, Pilliga P&C Association and St Francis Xavier’s Primary School P&F Narrabri.
The grants support capacity-building events, projects, programs and activities that deliver both social and economic benefits to the wider community.
Speaking at the ceremony, Narrabri Shire mayor Darrell Tiemens highlighted the dedication of the notfor-profit groups and clubs.
“The vital role you play in reinvigorating our community through sporting and social events is nothing short of admirable,” Cr Tiemens said.
“You are integral in helping build positivity right across our shire and pivotal in encouraging community pride and revitalisation of our villages and towns.
“I would also like to make special mention of the hard work of all your volunteers, who continue to contribute so much to local not-for-profit groups, and to our shire overall.
“I offer my congratulations to all of you and thank you again for the crucial contribution you continue to make to Narrabri Shire.”
The Community Financial Assistance Grant program is based on funding rounds and up-front financial contributions.
After official proceedings, community groups were given the opportunity to deliver speeches and were invited to a celebratory morning tea in the chambers.
Round two of the Community Financial Assistance Grants closes on November 15, 2023. Applications can be found on council’s website.
