Dangar Park Tennis Centre played host to Narrabri Tennis’ 2023 Junior Club Championships on Sunday as just under 40 young players took to the courts for a day of match play.
Narrabri Tennis head coach Shane Murphy told The Courier that it was an enjoyable day, with some new and returning faces lining up.
“Sunday was a great day of tennis,” he said.
“We had a lot of juniors take to the court for the first time, and then a lot of others who were continuing their match play stuff.
“The main thing about it was that we wanted our Narrabri Tennis athletes to just come together and play some tennis amongst themselves.
“It would have been great to have a few more numbers there, but of course, you’ve got other events on, the time of year and other things.
“We’ll look to hold the same event a bit earlier next year to try to encourage more players to participate.”
Murphy said that while it was great to see all of the junior players out on the courts enjoying their tennis and showing signs of improvement, he was especially impressed with Tyler Bron’s efforts.
“Tyler won the under-10 boys. He’s only just started playing tennis but he’s putting in the work and coming to Friday night match play, and now he’s come to his first tournament and had a win. It’s a great effort,” Murphy said.
