A Courier reader took this photo of light playing over the Nandewar Range on Christmas Day – ‘the light lasted about 15 minutes’ our contributor reported.

There have been some interesting light activities in recent weeks as bushfire smoke and storm activity created some unusual effects.

The contributed picture might be as close to the Aurora Australis – the southern hemisphere’s version of the northern hemisphere’s Aurora Borealis – that we get. This wasn’t the Aurora, but the Aurora Australis has actually been sighted recently, in early December last year, in a wide area encompassing southern and central Australia and even western NSW.
