The first bowls match of the year was contested on Saturday when the final of Narrabri Bowling Club’s 2023/24 season minor pairs competition was played at the John McNamara Owen Campey Green.
The match was a thriller as Terry Wilson and Richard Little edged out Ron Ryan and Ian Macmillan 23 shots to 22 after an extra end was required.
Little and Wilson started well and established an early 10 shots to three lead after five ends.
Ryan and Macmillan then scored nine shots to two across the next six ends to even the score up at 12-all.
Little and Wilson took the lead again and scored six shots to two across the next four ends to lead 22 shots to 14 with three ends to play, but Ryan and Macmillan did not give up and they managed to score eight shots across the final three ends to even the game up at 22-all on the 21st end.
That meant an extra end needed to be played to get a result, and Little and Wilson registered one shot on the deciding end to score a 23 shots to 22 victory.
Narrabri Bowling Club’s mixed pairs competition will commence midway through February.
