Narrabri residents Gordon and Helen Cain celebrated the happy occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary at the On Lee restaurant on Saturday, December 16.
Joined by sixteen family and friends, some from the original wedding party, Mr Cain spoke on behalf of the couple and welcomed everyone to the celebrations, thanking those who had travelled from afar.
Many cherished memories were shared throughout the evening.
Diamond anniversary congratulatory cards to Mr and Mrs Cain were received from King Charles and Queen Camilla, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Governor General of the Commonwealth of Australia David Hurley, Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton, Premier of NSW Chris Minns, and Member for Barwon Roy Butler.
Sixty years ago, on December 14, 1963, the couple were married at St Cyprian’s Anglican church in Narrabri.
The Cain family has a long association with the church with a connection continuing through the generations with family baptisms, weddings and funerals.
Mr Cain’s grandparents William (dec) and Hannah Cain (née Kneller) (dec) celebrated their wedding there in 1896, his parents William Edward (dec) and Alice Cain (née Reichel) (dec) in 1923, Gordon and Helen (née Tomlinson) in 1963, daughter Victoria to Gavin Bishop in 1993, and son Peter to Deborah (née Smith) in 1998.
Family members who have passed away are laid to rest in local cemeteries, and following in the close family tradition, the couple’s grandchildren Ashley, Ethan, Kaitlyn and William have all been baptised at St Cyprian’s Church.
