Wee Waa’s Young Woman of the Year Montana Winter represented the district brilliantly in the Zone 4 final of The Land Sydney Royal AgShows NSW Young Woman competition held in Tamworth recently.

“I absolutely loved every moment of the experience of representing Wee Waa,” said Montana.

“I met a really lovely bunch of young women.

“It was really nice to listen to what they do and their different lifestyles.

“I felt a little bit nervous in the beginning but once I met and had a chat to some of the other young women it took the nerves away.

“It was honestly a really fun experience.

Zone 4 The land Sydney Royal Agshows NSW Young Woman Competition: Quirindi’s Sarah Caslick, Dorrigo’s Nikia Nolan, Inverell’s Phebe Turner, Walcha’s Emily Scrivener, Glen Innes’ Jessica Trow, Gunnedah’s Elly Byriell, Narrabri’s Millicent Bruce, Wee Waa’s Montana Winter, Walgett’s Emily Barton, Armidale’s Katie Williams, Tamworth’s Hannah Russell, Barraba’s Maddison Taylor, Warialda’s Laura Lockhart, Moree’s Brooke Muller, and Guyra’s Alice Stanley.

“We firstly had an interview with a panel of three judges, then we had a lunch with the other young women and the interviewers.

“At 6:30pm we all sat in our show societies with our family and both watched and participated in an on-stage interview.”

Montana said boosting confidence levels and building a network of new friends were just some of the benefits of taking part in the young rural advocate initiative.

“I have really enjoyed the experience itself; it has really been a big step out of my comfort zone, but I have loved every moment.

“From not really being the most confident person, I have taken so much from this experience, and I’ve found that I have come out of the weekend with a whole new confidence level, whether it’s meeting new people and even public speaking.”

Montana gracefully congratulated the winners of the Zone 4 Young Woman finals – Emily Barton (Walgett Show Society) and Katie Williams (Armidale and New England Show Society) – wishing them all the best at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.

“I am excited to see that we have two very empowering women representing Zone 4 in Sydney, both these young women did such a fantastic job and represented their show societies really well,” said Montana.

Montana thanked the show society, family and the community for their encouragement.

“A big thank you to Gary Hibbens and Georgie Haire.

“They have both been there with me from the start and have been an absolutely amazing support, as well as my family who have supported me and helped me along the way, “ said Montana.

Wee Waa Show Society president Gary Hibbens congratulated Montana ‘on not only doing a fantastic job of representing the show society but the whole community’.

Mr Hibbens also congratulated the winners and their show societies.
