Numbers lifted by 800 head at Tuesday’s sale with an increase in vealer supply while yearlings were presented in large numbers.
Cows were well supplied and there was a fair number of heavy grown steers and bullocks.
Overall the quality of the offering was fair to good with plenty of well bred young cattle available.
Condition was also good for the most part.
The full field of regular buyers were in attendance.
The lighter end of the vealer steers to restockers sold to a slightly cheaper trend with quality a factor.
The good quality heavier weights sold to dearer trends.
The vealer heifers to restock followed a similar trend with the heavier weights attracting greater competition.
Yearlings steers to restock and feed sold on a firm to dearer market trend with some quality related price change.
The good quality heavy feeders between 400 and 480kg saw a price range of around 10c/kg regardless of breed with the gap only widening based on quality.
Feeder steers in excess of 480kg sold to a slightly cheaper trend with an odd exception.
Medium and heavy weight yearling heifers to restock and feed were keenly sought with strong competition. This resulted in dearer trends of 7c to 8c/kg.
Well finished heavy grown steers to process sold on a firm to slightly cheaper trend however some of that was age and quality related.
The best of the steers remained firm.
There was a large variation in the quality and condition of the cows on offer with demand improving for all types.
Market trends were firm to dearer throughout with the better heavy weights up by as much as 9c/kg.
