Wee Waa Bowling Club kick-started their 2023/24 Zone 3 Bowls campaign open gender pennants competition in style on Saturday with a dominant victory away from home against local rivals Narrabri Bowling Club.
The two clubs met at Narrabri’s John McNamara Owen Campey Green and Wee Waa got the job done as they claimed all three rinks on their way to a 74 shots to 57 overall victory to earn the 10 competition points on offer.
There were two close contests as Wee Waa won rink one by three shots and rink three by two shots, but the main damage was done on rink two as Renee Doring, Kyne Allen, Jay Hall and Ty Baker defeated Col Armstrong, Tony Redman, Len Ryan and Scott Dewar 31 shots to 19.
Clancy Hamilton, Kay Dewson, Kevin Baker and Peter Doring beat Rebecca Taylor, Di Chessells, Eva Sadler and Lisa Pillar 25 shots to 22, and Charlie Thompson, Melissa Allen, Phil Lawford and Paul Andreassen downed Janice Foxe, Steve Daskey, Cindy Neil and David Dewar 18 shots to 16.
Wee Waa’s victory saw them finish the weekend on top of the division five section two ladder. There are three teams in the section, the other being Lightning Ridge who are on eight points following their round one victory in Narrabri a week earlier.
Wee Waa will travel to Lightning Ridge for their round three clash on Saturday, April 6.
Narrabri are now sitting last on two points and they will sit out with the bye in round three. Their next game will be contested at Lightning Ridge District Bowling Club in round four on Saturday, April 13.
