A ‘thank you’ cake and a gathering of Narrabri retailers and other friends farewelled MJ’s Newsagency proprietors Jodie Hill and Mel Richardson on Friday.

MJ’s closed on March 17 after eight years under the ownership of the two women, a move undertaken with regret shared by many in the community.

The iconic newsagency is a key hub in country towns and many are disappointed that the Narrabri store has closed.

However, the owners have their own priorities in family and life and are moving on to the next chapter.

Jodie thanked the small gathering, and particularly Jenny Gale who organised the big ‘thank you’ mud cake.

“We have enjoyed every minute of our time at the newsagency,” Mrs Hill said.

“We thank our wonderful customers.”

Mrs Hill thanked the community for its support.

“I want to especially thank Philip Simshauser who has been a staunch worker and supporter for us over the years – we would have been so lost without Philip, he is so obliging and helpful to us.”
