Nominations are being sought for Narrabri Shire Council’s 2024 Volunteer of the Year award.
The honour will be presented as part of National Volunteer Week celebrations in the shire. The local celebration will be held on Friday, May 24.
Nominations close at 3pm on Friday, April 12.
Volunteering brings people together to build communities and create a better society for everyone.
The shire award recognises the significant contribution members of the shire have made in giving their time to not-for-profit organisations, community groups or other entities such as schools or government organisations.
The award celebrates contributions made by people in the community across all walks of life.
Last year’s winner, Marg Hallett, has been a beloved face behind community radio station 2MaxFM.
Established in 1989, National Volunteer Week is the premier celebration of volunteers and volunteerism in Australia.
Each year, this special event provides an opportunity to highlight the important role of volunteers in our community and invites people not currently volunteering to give it a go.
This year, the National Volunteer Week theme is ‘Something for Everyone’.
The theme serves as an invitation to explore the myriad of opportunities available, emphasising that there’s a place for everyone in the world of volunteering.
Whether you’re drawn to environmental causes, community outreach, education, or beyond, there’s a place where your unique skills and interests can flourish.
Narrabri Shire boasts many organisations and services. Volunteers are the backbone of many groups across the shire.
Nomination forms for the shire’s Volunteer of the Year award are available on the council’s website or at the Maitland Street administration building.
