In celebration of the 24th National Simultaneous Storytime held last Wednesday, Narrabri Library hosted mayor Darrell Tiemens during their weekly storytime session.

Narrabri’s Gumnut Cottage Childcare and Preschool made the visit to enjoy the reading of this year’s chosen book, ‘Bowerbird Blues’ by Aura Parker.

Cr Tiemens, aided by Rosie the Story-Time Teddy, delivered the reading to the young audience.

‘Bowerbird Blues’ tells the story of a beautiful bowerbird obsessed with the colour blue. It has been described as a story of longing and connection.

“National Simultaneous Storytime is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate story time in communities across the country, and promotes the value of reading and literacy,” said Cr Tiemens.

“Encouraging early literacy is a priority for our community, and events like this highlight the importance of fostering a love for reading from a young age, and I want to thank Gumnut Cottage for their participation as well as our dedicated library staff.”

National Simultaneous Storytime is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association, and each year, a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes and bookshops across Australia.
