The Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club minor singles decider was contested at the Narrabri Bowling Club’s John McNamara Owen Campey Green on Tuesday, and the finalists produced an entertaining match.

Rebecca Taylor was crowned the champion after she defeated Berice Eather 25 shots to 11, but despite the scoreline, it was certainly not a one-sided encounter.

Taylor established an early lead as she scored a shot on the first and the second end to go ahead 2-0, however, Eather claimed four of the next five ends to lead 8-6 after seven ends.

The two bowlers then traded a shot as Ether’s lead became 9-7 after nine ends. Taylor hit back as she scored three shots to nothing across the next two ends to edge in front, but Eather then scored one shot on the 12th to make the score 10 apiece with nine ends to play.

Only seven of those nine ends were needed as Taylor went on a dominant run, winning five consecutive ends to open up a 23-10 lead after 17 ends. Eather scored a shot on the 18th end but the result was beyond her reach when Taylor scored two shots on the 19th ends to go ahead 25-11. The two bowlers called it there and Taylor was crowned the minor singles champion.

Another Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club final will be contested at the club this Saturday when the triples decider gets underway from 9.30am. That game will see the team of Carol Demamiel, Janice Foxe and Lisa Pillar challenge the team of Marie Redman, Dawn Armstrong and Cindy Neil.
