A development application has been lodged with Narrabri Shire Council to construct a car wash facility on Cooma Road.

The proposed development would be built on a vacant allotment, across from the BP Service Station, on the corner of Cooma Road and Fraser Street.

Plans lodged with council show the facility would operate until 8pm, seven days a week.

Cars will enter the site via an entry only crossover from Cooma Road and manoeuvre around the northern and eastern boundaries of the site via the passing lane.

Vehicles will exit the site via an exit only crossover adjoining Fraser Street. The development’s design and traffic impact assessment has been submitted to Transport for NSW for consideration.

“The proposed development has been sensitively designed to respond to the established characteristics of the surrounding streetscape and as such will not appear out of character or set an undesirable precedence for future development,” development plans state.

“The proposed development design is considerate of adjoining residential land uses.”

The traffic impact assessment for the site states there will be an increase in traffic movements in the vicinity of the site.

“However, the traffic efficiency will not be reduced to unacceptable levels; the impact on the amenity of nearby residents due to road traffic noise will be minimal; and the traffic generated by the proposal will not have any significant impact on safety in surrounding streets and intersections,” the report states.

“All visiting vehicles for the car wash will be held either in the car wash bays, the vacuum bay, or in a holding queue on site. On-site parking will be provided for staff and the dog wash bay.

“It is therefore concluded that the proposed development is supportable on traffic planning grounds and will operate satisfactorily.”
