Heavy rain swept across most of the Narrabri Shire district at the end of the week and into Saturday.

Falls of up to 90mm were recorded at backyard rain gauges and 80mm plus on the Narrabri Weather website.

Most falls were in the high 50s to 70s, but some areas only received single digit recording.

Readings ranged through 73mm at Narrabri West, 80.8 at Narrabri, 62.6 at Federation Farm, 21.2 at Culgoora, Edgeroi 57.6, Myall Vale 48.8, Yarraman 51.2 and Wee Waa North 47.9.

Narrabri Fire and Rescue and SES emergency workers were called out to respond to water damage to several buildings in Maitland Street, Narrabri on Saturday morning.

“We were called out to several premises inundated by the heavy rain. Ceilings fell through in one case, another premises had to have all stock and equipment – everything taken out and the power had to be turned off,” Narrabri Fire and Rescue station commander Shane Bradford said.

SES volunteers helped move computers and desks and put tarps over some areas.

“We were called out by a fire alarm at 6am, which went off when it got wet, and we finished about midday Saturday,” Mr Bradford said.

The heavy and persistent rain caused a leak in the Narrabri Rotary’s book sale premises and Fire and Rescue and SES volunteers joined Rotarians to move books out of harm’s way.
