Boggabri community pantry opens

There was plenty of excitement in Boggabri last Wednesday as the Boggabri Community Pantry was officially opened.

Claire Dunlop, Anglicare regional co-ordinator welcomed the crowd to the opening saying how delighted and happy they were to be in beautiful Boggabri.

Ms Dunlop said that Rev Nick Stone approached Anglicare saying St Barnabas had identified that there was a need for help in the community.

Anglicare has a passion for helping small country towns with populations of around a 1000 people.

A partnership was formed to deliver low-cost groceries to help stretch the budget, saving money and connecting with the local community.

Not only can community members come and buy a bag of essential groceries of their choice from the shelves for $15 they also get to have morning tea and a chat with the volunteers and if necessary, referral and information to other services.

Groceries come from donations and Food Bank deliver to the community venue.

Items are many and varied from cans of soups, vegetables, pantry basics like rice, flour, pasta, cereal and cleaning supplies.

Ms Dunlop said they welcome donations and people can contact either by phone or email.

Volunteers are organised and supplied by the church.
