Kootingal Roosters celebrated a big day out at Narrabri when they won all four grades in round 10 of the Whitehaven Coal Group 4 fixture.
The Roosters ground out a 40-12 first grade win after prevailing 42-18 in second grade, 64-6 in ladies league tag and 24-22 in the under 18 match.
“It was a big day for the club,” first grade coach Mark Sheppard told G4 Media.
“That’s tough to do out there.”
He said his first grade side were made to work hard for their win, converting a 22-6 halftime lead into the 18 point victory.
“Narrabri looked real good too,” he said of the opposing side.
“If they stick with those young blokes they will be better and have something to build on.”
Kootingal, he said, “grafted away”.
“We laid a good platform,” he said of a side led well by skipper Logan Howard with hooker Anders Glew and young prop Jasper Thistle in great form.
“Anders carved them up,” Sheppard said.
“Ben Williams started at lock today and played the full 80 minutes. Jasper was our players player and scored two tries. Everyone was solid though. Jacko Brookman, Jordan (Sharpe) played five-eighth today with Braydo out and Rhys Davis was good too. Archie Thistle helped lay the platform too.”
The Roosters, third on the G4 Table, were made to work hard for their 28-point win against an improving Blues side.
Kootingal led 24-12 at halftime.
“It was only 24-12 with 25 minutes to go,” Narrabri coach Glenn Collins told G4 Media.
“And we had plenty of opportunities to score but just made back to back mistakes and they came back to haunt us.”
An intercept try didn’t help as the Roosters cemented a tough win.
Glenn Collins thought Feliti Matio, Rob Condren and Aiden Butcher were outstanding for the Blues with Cameron King also featuring.
“We’re getting closer (to a win),” Collins said.
“We played some real good football today but you can’t win with that much turnover. Just made too many mistakes. We’re so close yet so far away but we are growing and I think we are progressing.”
