The Inner Wheel Club of Narrabri has celebrated its many successes for the past year at its annual changeover dinner on Tuesday evening.

Members and guests enjoyed dinner at the Narrabri Bowling Club while congratulating outgoing president Jenni Hayne on a successful year.

“Our fundraisers for the year included an Indian dinner where money was raised towards Dr Ray Hodgson’s Hospital in Nepal,” Mrs Hayne said.

“This was generously hosted by a local gym owner Jaspreet Singh who cooked and organised all the amazing food.

“For cord blood, we did a walk in a local park and were supported by Rotary who ran a barbecue and donated their proceeds as well.

“We also supported three students from Narrabri High School who are travelling to London for the International Youth Science Forum.

“Members of our club have supported Rotary to run the Rotary book sale, in particular Patricia Norrie who has spent many hours helping set up and run the book sale.”

The club also enjoyed many social activities, including learning the basics of Mahjong, watching floral art demonstrations and a mystery trip to Bingara.

At the changeover evening, Mrs Hayne offered her thanks to office bearers for the year, including, Pat Norrie (past president), Kath Hamilton (secretary), Jenny Cable (treasurer and public officer), Ros Hall (club correspondent), Tricia Hadley (international officer), Marilyn Collins (social convenor), Marie Keys (historian), Lyn Wright (committee) and Carolynne Tomlinson (committee).

The president’s collar of office was then presented to Joan Burrell-Melbourne.

Mrs Burrell-Melbourne, a club member for 50 years, praised Inner Wheel’s important role as a friendship club as well as its work in supporting national and international causes.

“This is a very special Inner Wheel club,” she said.

“I look forward to leading our club in a happy and productive year.”

Mrs Burrell-Melbourne presented a bouquet of flowers to Mrs Hayne to thank her for her work as president in the past 12 months.
