A mass was held on Sunday, July 21, conducted by St Francis Xavier Catholic Church’s Fr Sabu Pulimalayil as he prepares for his departure from Narrabri later this month.
The occasion was followed by morning tea and the opportunity to wish Fr Sabu well in his transition to the parish of West Tamworth.
After more than five years of dedication to the Narrabri parish, the much-loved priest will be greatly missed by his parishioners and the community of St Francis Xavier’s Primary School.
Fr Sabu conveyed a heartfelt message to the local community, thanking them for their support during his term in Narrabri.
“From the bottom of my heart, I want to give a big thanks to you all.
“When I arrived in February 2019 you welcomed me, and during these five years and five months you have showed me your love, care, hospitality, and friendship.
“I am going to miss it,” he said.
“Narrabri was a home away home for me.
“As I move to a new parish, please accompany me with your prayer support.
“You all will be in my prayers.”
St Francis Xavier’s Primary School principal Malcolm Frend conveyed the community’s appreciation for Fr Sabu’s term in Narrabri.
“The St Francis Xavier’s community has greatly benefitted from Fr Sabu’s involvement in our school over the past five years and five months.
“We wish him all the very best and we will keep him in our prayers,” Mr Frend said.
“The parish of St Joseph’s West Tamworth are indeed very lucky to have Fr Sabu as their new parish priest.”
The parish community will be welcoming new priest Fr Paul Anthony Aguilar to Narrabri this month.
