Narrabri Golf Club’s defending men’s club champion Adam Taylor is off to a winning start to the 2024 Narrabri club championships after shooting a five-over-par 76 in the opening round on Saturday.

Taylor is a seven-time Narrabri club champion after taking out the title in 2000, 2003, 2009, 2013, 2020, 2021 (which was held in February of 2022) and 2023, and he is one of the clear favourites to take it out this year.

Another of those favourites is back-to-back Narrabri Open champ Karl Hatfield, who was the A-grade gross runner-up on Saturday. The 2023 and 2024 open winner finished the day with 77 to enter round two just one shot behind Taylor.

Jye Manton marked his first club championships appearance as an A-grader by finishing round one as the nett leader after producing a nett score of 73, which included an eagle on the par five hole seven. He won the day on a countback from Keith Flood.

The women’s A-grade winner on the day was the 2021 and 2022 club champ Louise Penberthy, who shot 91 and leads by two shots from Leisa Eather heading into round two.

This year’s club champs event will again be held across four rounds, with round two to be played this Saturday followed by rounds three and four on Saturday and Sunday, August 24 and 25.
