Residents across the north west are invited to a day of family fun at Whitehaven Coal’s annual Community Open Day in Boggabri.

To be held on Saturday, August 31 at the Boggabri Showground, the event will aim to bring the communities of Boggabri, Gunnedah, Narrabri and surrounding areas together for a full day of exciting activities, market stalls, kids’ rides and entertainment.

Whitehaven Coal’s general manager community engagement, Darren Swain says the day is an opportunity to give back to all of the communities, businesses and families who continue to support Whitehaven Coal.

“Following the success of last year’s Community Open Day, we’re excited to be returning to Boggabri once again for a full day of fun and free entertainment for everyone to enjoy,” he said.

“We’re inviting the local community, our workforce and their families to come along and take advantage of all the activities on offer, including jumping castles, pony rides, face painting, snow cones, amusement rides, market stalls and food vendors.”

Kicking off at the Boggabri Showground from 9am, the day will also include heavy equipment displays and provide an opportunity for the community to learn more about Whitehaven Coal’s mining operations.

“We will have a number of information stands at the event dedicated to different aspects of the mining industry, including geology, rehabilitation and biodiversity, which will provide some great insights into the world of coal mining and how we conduct our work,” said Mr Swain.

The community will also be given a behind the scenes look into a working coal mine with guided bus tours to the Maules Creek Coal Mine site.

“Our guided bus tours were extremely popular last year and booked out in a matter of days,” said Mr Swain.

“Anyone wishing to book a spot on a guided bus tour must pre-register before the event and can do so via our Facebook event page or the Whitehaven Coal website.”

The Community Open Day will also see displays from several local community groups and emergency services including the Rural Fire Service, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, the State Emergency Service and Fire and Rescue NSW.

“This is a day all about the community and giving back to local community groups and businesses,” said Mr Swain.

“If you’d like to get your business involved with our Community Open Day, please get in touch.”
