Narrabri Shire Council will see a record number of candidates vie to fill nine councillor positions at September’s local government election.
As of Wednesday morning, six groups consisting of five candidates each as well as eight individual candidates were registered according to information published online by the NSW Electoral Commission.
The cut-off for nominations was 12pm on Wednesday, with the ballot paper order being drawn today.
The distribution of postal packs will take place from Monday, August 19.
Pre-poll voting will commence in Narrabri at the aquatic centre multi-purpose room from Saturday, September 7 to Friday, September 13 before polling day on Saturday, September 14.
A pre-poll voting station will also be established at the Wee Waa CWA rooms.
Applications for postal voting will close at 5pm on Monday, September 9.
On election day, polling locations will be setup at the Narrabri Aquatic Centre, St Lawrence’s Anglican Hall, Wee Waa Public School, Bellata War Memorial Hall, Baan Baa Community Hall, Boggabri Public School and Pilliga Public School.
If people are voting in person, they must vote at a venue in their enrolled council area.
Voting options for this election will include pre-poll (early voting) at a pre-poll venue, voting in person at a polling place on election day, postal voting, telephone assisted voting for electors who are blind or have low vision as well as braille ballot papers.
If you are an Australian citizen aged 18 years or more, you are required to enrol and vote in federal, state and local government elections and by-elections.
If you do not vote, you may receive a penalty notice.
Narrabri Chamber of Commerce is again planning a meet the candidates night at The Crossing Theatre.
The event will be held on Thursday, September 5 from 6pm.
