Celebrating 33 years in 2024, Flickerfest remains Australia’s leading Academy Qualifying and BAFTA Recognised short film festival, ensuring that the nation continues to present A-list short film programmes recognised amongst the best in the world with films hand-picked from the festival’s record 3400 entries.

Flickerfest, Australia’s largest short film Festival, is thrilled to be bringing its national tour for the very first time to Maules Creek Hall and Pilliga Community Link Inc, presented by Narrabri Shire Council.

After screening for many years at The Crossing Theatre, Flickerfest is thrilled to be sharing the festival further afield in the shire.

Flickerfest is excited to be showcasing the Best of Australian Shorts program highlights, all handpicked favourites from the recent Bondi festival competitions.

The short films screening are all entertaining, inspiring, award-winning, and fresh from their premieres in competition at Flickerfest Bondi, giving the Maules Creek and Pilliga communities’ Flickerfest audiences a window into the hottest contemporary shorts from at home and across the world today.

The screening will be held at Maules Creek on Friday, September 13, from 6.30pm, and at Pilliga on Saturday, October 19, from 7.30pm.

Flickerfest-goers will be able to admire the incredible short film talent that exists in the emerging Australian industry with a host of Australian stories honoring the nation’s unique identity and culture in the Best of Australian Shorts programme.

Highlights include the heartwarming Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge, directed by Hattie Archibald who grew up in the Upper Hunter of NSW, a live-action adaptation of the classic children’s book by Mem Fox.

If comedy is what you’re after, then don’t miss Ashes, written and directed by Georgina Haigh (The Sapphires, Back to the Rafters), who stars alongside laugh-out-loud performances from comedy masters Michael Caton and Michala Banas (McLeod’s Daughters, Golddiggers).
