Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club held their annual Spring Carnival across the weekend at the Narrabri Bowling Club.
Twelve teams participated in the event, with players travelling from Wee Waa, East Cessnock, Maitland, Greta, Manilla, Tamworth, Gunnedah, Boolaroo and Lighting Ridge to join the local Narrabri bowlers.
The teams all played four matches that consisted of 18 ends each.
The overall winners for the weekend were the Wee Waa team of Melissa Allen, Dot Dewson, Kay Dewson and Lisa Pillar. They played four matches across the two days and won all four of them as they outscored the Narrabri team of Lyn Wedesweiler, Janice Foxe, Ronnie Dewar and Di Chessells 26 shots to eight in their opener and then Greta/Maitland 20 shots to 11, East Cessnock 19 shots to 18, and Manilla 17 shots to 15.
Wee Waa were one of two teams that won all four of their matches, which included the West Tamworth team of Julie Scott, Anne Guy, Cheryl Schipp and Zoe Stewart.
The champion team was decided by the number of ends won across the four games, of which Wee Waa earned 42 to West Tamworth’s 39 to claim the top spot and see West Tamworth end up ranked second.
A Narrabri team that included Carol Demamiel, Helen Woodward, Marie Redman and Cindy Neil claimed third place following three wins and a loss across the weekend. They beat East Cessnock 28 shots to 19 in their first game and then went down 21 shots to 13 against fellow Narrabri bowlers Wedesweiler, Foxe, Dewar and Chessells in their second game before bouncing back to win both games on day two as they beat Boolaroo 23 shots to eight and Greta/Maitland 14 shots to 12.
Demamiel, Woodward, Redman and Neil also prevailed by the number of ends they won after a mixed team of Eva Sadler (Narrabri), Heidi Monch (Lightning Ridge), Bree Pillar (Wee Waa) and Ella Cameron (Gunnedah) claimed three wins during the event as well. The Narrabri team ended up with 42 ends and the mixed team finished on 35 ends.
There was another Narrabri team in action across the weekend, which was made up of Rhonda Fitzgerald, Cecile, Janet Coleman and Lyn Tuckey.
There were four minor winners as well across the two days, which could not be claimed by any of the teams in the top three. The Saturday morning winners were Greta/Maitland, the Saturday afternoon winners were Manilla, the Sunday morning winners were the Narrabri team of Wedesweiler, Foxe, Dewar and Chessells, and the Sunday afternoon winners were East Cessnock.
