The Australian government’s Get behind it! community roadshow is visiting Narrabri to raise awareness of the importance of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program.
On Thursday, September 19, the roadshow’s event trailer will share life saving information with the local community, encouraging people to complete their free test and have conversations with their loved ones about the program.
The roadshow is travelling to low screening communities across Australia to raise awareness and encourage communities to complete their Bowel Cancer Screening test.
With the Narrabri average testing rate sitting at 33.7 per cent, there is a greater need to spread awareness about the test in the local community. The program sends a free at home bowel cancer screening kit every two years to eligible Australians aged 50-74. Visitors to the Get behind it! community roadshow trailer can learn more about the screening program, re-order their free tests, take home screening reminder merchandise and win daily prizes.
From July 1, 2024, Australians aged 45-49 can join the program by requesting a free screening kit be sent to them in the mail.
Program ambassador Andrew Rochford said it’s important that the service gets out there and talks to communities about the importance of bowel cancer screening and being proactive about their health.
“Regular screening will help to save lives, and I strongly encourage eligible participants to do their test when it arrives in the mail and to encourage the people you love to do the same”.
“If you see the community event trailer out on the road, come and say hello, and find out how this simple and free test is saving lives.”
