Narrabri High School’s 2024 Year 12 students farewelled their school at a final assembly on Friday, September 27 and set off to prepare for their HSC exams and future careers.
Students’ proud family and friends filled the Betty Berriman Hall for the farewell assembly and introduction of next year’s school leaders.
Each of the Year 12 class of ‘24’ has exciting plans for their lives in further studies, local job opportunities and apprenticeships.
In his address relieving principal Simon Warden encouraged the leaving students to embrace the opportunities and adventures ahead, referencing the journey of Bilbo Baggins, hero of the classic ‘Lord of the Rings’ who was plucked from his old life and plunged into a new journey.
“For the next little while, your world is one of predictability and you have a firm idea of where you fit, what your role is and what you need to do next. For the past thirteen years, school and its routines and rituals have filled a sizeable portion of your everyday,” Mr Warden said.
“Today, and from this day forward, that every day is going to look very different, it will be disrupted.

“At the end of this ceremony, and after the applause has ceased and the tears have dried, your journey will have begun.
“Embark upon your journey with gusto and treat each day as an opportunity.
“Remember, Year 12, that Narrabri will always exist for you as a place of comfort, certainty and predictability, a reassuring place.
“However, now is the perfect time for you to set off on your journey. You are more than ready and there is much to learn and experience along the way.
“Enjoy the disruptions, embrace the detours, choose the alternatives and accept that a fulfilling life is hallmarked by adventures and the joys brought forth by the unexpected, for it is these things that often bring rewards far richer than we can ever imagine,” Mr Warden advised.
“So, my advice to you, Year 12, is to commence your journey by stepping forward decisively, without fear or trepidation but with the confidence and surety that there is much to be gained.”
