To the 2019 Year 7 Platinum History Class. The 2021 Year 9 History N Class. And finally, the graduating year 12 class of 2024.
As you have entered the final weeks of your secondary education, I imagine you and your parents have been reflecting upon the years and milestones that have passed since you entered kindergarten.
If you could please indulge me for a moment, I am going to do the same.
Recently we met for a potentially final time to open a sealed box of letters to ourselves written in 2021.
I was excited to see an activity we began in 2021 reach its conclusion, but as we met to read these letters, I was struck by the time that has passed.
In 2019, as you began your journey at Narrabri High School, I was met with a friendly (and chatty!) class who brought enthusiasm to every lesson. There were great discussions, great energy, and some great moments of learning.
Fast-forward to 2021. Now in Year 9, I was greeted with your class again. Still enthusiastic, still friendly … still chatty!
Due to a global pandemic our face-to-face lessons became Zoom calls, PowerPoint presentations and online quizzes. It was a strange and confronting time, but alas, one that could eventually become the basis of a fun activity to close out your years at Narrabri High School.
It was our first lesson back in the classroom together post-COVID lockdown. I asked you all write to a letter to your future self, reflecting on life during the pandemic, how lockdown impacted you, and anything else you felt would be relevant to your Year 12-self.
The letters were then sealed away and put onto the top shelf of the storeroom.
This week I quite literally dusted off the cobwebs and you all came together to see what wisdom you had penned all those years ago.
The enthusiasm you all showed to read a letter written in a Year 9 history class was contagious. The laughter was loud.
You are all still exceptionally friendly, enthusiastic … and chatty!
It has been an absolute privilege to be a part of your journey through Narrabri High School.
