Remembrance Day has special memories for many Boggabri residents and their families.

It was especially emotional for Denise Giles as her brother, David (Doc) Cathcart a Vietnam veteran, received his flag for the first time from the Boggabri RSL Sub-branch on Monday after being laid to rest on October 30, 2024.

Boggabri RSL Sub-branch honours and remembers the Boggabri people who have served by raising a flag on veteran’s graves for Anzac Day and Remembrance Day as part of the ‘Honour Our Fallen’ project which they joined in 2019.

A large crowd gathered to honour the men and women who have served and died for our country in wars and conflicts.

President of the Boggabri RSL Sub-branch, Steve Eather conducted the ceremony and gave the commemorative address with Rev Nick Stone leading the prayers and David Sawtell raising and lowering the flag.

Attendees took time to reflect on the sacrifices made by service men and women, past and present as well as their supportive relatives and friends.

A minute’s silence at 11am, on the 11th day of the 11th month was observed by those present.

The younger generation were represented by students from local schools and the Boggabri Home and Community Care provided brunch with funds raised going to PTSD Dogs Australia.
