The presentation of awards at the 1st Narrabri West Scout Hall was a historic occasion, with the first King’s Scout honour bestowed in many decades.
Kate Weekes received the King’s Scout Award, representing hundreds of hours of dedication.
A Queen’s Scout Award was presented to Narrabri Scouts in the 1960s, and before that to Narrabri West almost 70 years ago.
Speakers on the day mentioned Kate’s energy as well as always having a smile on her face. She was also praised for juggling her HSC and part-time work, all while fulfilling the requirements of the award.
Kate was praised for her dedication to Scouts, school, church and friends.
“A lot of dedication and work goes into the King’s Scout Award,” 1st Narrabri West Scout leader Tom Kay said.
“Kate has covered all the milestones and has achieved very well.”
Addressing the gathering in the Scout hall, Kate Weekes said she was grateful for the support of many people.
Kate’s journey started at six-years-old, progressing through the levels of Scouting. At the age of 15, she moved into Venturers.
Kate said the lessons she has learnt through her Scouting life will be cherished forever.
Saturday was a special day for the Weekes family, with Daniielle recognised in Joey Scouts with the Promise Challenge Award.
The Grey Wolf Award was also received by Narrabri West, and was accepted by Lillian Davies, Annabell Dufty and Coen Harris.
