Moree Plains Shire Council general manager Kelvin Tytherleigh has resigned from his position.

The matter was initially raised in a closed session of an extraordinary meeting on December 5.

Councillors resolved to delegate to the mayor the power to negotiate and, if appropriate, execute an agreement to affect the termination of the general manager’s contract of employment and termination effective on a date to be agreed.

During the proceedings, Cr Kelly James was called out twice on a matter of disorder and was asked to leave the chamber, minutes from the meeting show.

Cr James refused to leave, with the meeting adjourned twice while the matter was dealt with. Police were called to remove Cr James from the chamber, however, she left the meeting prior to their arrival and did not return.

Council later released a statement saying Mr Tytherleigh would leave the role by “mutual arrangement”.

The matter was again brought up at the December ordinary meeting, with mayor Susannah Pearse thanking Mr Tytherleigh through a mayoral minute. During the public forum component of the meeting, speakers voiced concern about Mr Tytherleigh’s resignation.

“That council notes the resignation of Mr Kelvin Tytherleigh and thanks him for his service to the Moree Plains Shire,” the mayoral minute read.

Mr Tytherleigh was thanked for his advocacy of the shire and region as well as other significant achievements during his two years at council.

Later in the meeting, Cr Kelly James tabled a notice of motion for a vote of no confidence in the Office of the Mayor. The motion was lost.
