The Spring Plains Santa Claus looked particularly snazzy this year in a fancy new suit, jingling a shiny golden bell as he cruised into Spring Plains singing carols and spreading plenty of cheer and joy.

Christmas came early for the bush Santa this year. In June, Narrabri Shire Council announced a grant meaning the jolly man in red would be receiving a glow up, including some brand new threads for the festive season.

“A heartfelt thank you goes to the NSC for awarding us a grant, which allowed us to elevate the festivities this year,” said organiser Katie
Watson.

“Santa had a fabulous suit upgrade—making him the most stylish Santa we’ve ever had.”

Santa rolled into Spring Plains in traditional country mode: perched on top of the Spring Plains West fire truck as senior deputy fire captain Angus Moore sounded the flashing sirens.

Local farmer Tony Schwager greeted Santa at the gate before more than 30 excited children gave Saint Nick an even warmer welcome, waving and bursting with excitement as he generously showered them with sweet treats.

Santa’s dulcet tones were on show too, he requested the children sing jingle bells with him to get the community Christmas party started.

Event organiser Katie Watson captured some very special Santa snaps on the night, which will be treasured memories for families.

Locals, friends, and families thanked Mrs Watson and her carol of helpful elves for coordinating such a wonderful gathering, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all attendees and reflected the spirit of community and Christmas.

There was lots to celebrate including young Arabella Chaplain who shared her magnificent third birthday cake with friends on the night.

“It was definitely one of the biggest we’ve seen in years,” said Mrs Watson.

“Lots of kids – must be a bit of a baby boom in the area, lots of under eight-year-olds. I think we had about 35 kids.

“We also funded a jumping castle for the kids, along with lots of other bits and pieces, all purchased locally.

“It’s a wonderful flow-on effect, spreading the cheer while supporting local businesses and strengthening our little community.

“The flow on effect of our grant money spending.

“After a busy year, it’s so special to bring our little community together to relax, share a barbecue, and celebrate the year with friends and neighbours and expats.

“Gathering at our 100-year-old hall in the middle of the plains adds to the magic, reminding us of the strength and connection that make our community so unique.”

After Santa’s surprise stop at Spring Plains, he had a quick dip in a local pool to cool off before heading straight back to the North Pole to help Mrs Claus and the elves prepare for Christmas.
