Last Tuesday, Boggabri Legacy met at the HACC rooms for a delicious pre-Christmas lunch of baked vegetables and an assortment of meat, desserts and sweet treats.

President Jean Dufty-Hopson, welcomed those present and introduced Tennille Painter, the community service worker from Tamworth and Armidale Legacy groups.

Unfortunately, some of the Boggabri people were unable to attend as they were not well, so a meal was delivered to their home by Mrs Dufty-Hopson and Steve Eather.

A quick, fun game of Christmas trivia was enjoyed by those present prior to lunch.

Boggabri supports six widows and one widower and has five legatees.

Legatees are the backbone of Legacy and deliver most of the services.

A legatee is a volunteer who makes the commitment to assist the families of those who gave their lives or health in service to their country.

Characteristically legatees are empathetic, understanding, non-judgemental and knowledgeable.

Boggabri Legacy was established as its own entity in 1962 and has been providing support for 62 years.

Initially, Boggabri was part of the Tamworth group.

Legacy supports the partners and children of veterans who have seen their loved ones leave our shores to serve in wars from World War I and World War II, to Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq.

Many never made the journey home and others returned bearing the physical and mental scars of war.

Legacy also supports the families of those who may have died many years after serving our nation.

All are equally deserving of our support for the sacrifices their families have made for their country.
