Narrabri RSL Cricket Club earned the right to play for a fifth consecutive first grade premiership after defeating Tourist Hotel by 94 runs on Saturday.
Narrabri District Cricket Association will host its 2024/25 campaign grand final day this Saturday, March 15, with the first grade grand final to be played at Collins Park and the second grade decider to be held at Hogan Oval.
RSL enters the day having won the past four first grade deciders, but this season’s opponents, the Wilga Hotel Razorbacks, are favourites heading into the big dance after going through the one day comp as the undefeated minor premiers.
The 2023/24 season grand finalists RSL and Tourist Hotel placed second and third, respectively, which saw the two rivals line up against one another in the preliminary final.
RSL batted first after skipper Jarrett Tough won the toss and the defending champs produced their best batting performance since round six back in December as they registered 149 runs before losing their final wicket with two deliveries to spare.
They then bowled Tourist Hotel out for 55 runs in 27.4 overs to win by 94 runs and lock in their spot in the final.
Meanwhile, the Sign Print Stitch Colts will mark their debut season with an appearance in the second grade grand final after they defeated this season’s T20 champions Tourist Hotel in their preliminary final.
The Colts ended the regular season two wins behind Tourist in second place and they were forced to bowl first in the playoff match after Tourist skipper Adam Gordon won the toss.
Tourist ended up all out for 67 in 22 overs, and the Colts managed to reach the required total in the 26th over of the second innings after losing nine wickets.
They will now challenge the minor premiers and the six-time defending champions RSL in the grand final on Saturday. RSL claimed a first-place finish after prevailing in all seven of their games that were not washed out.
