Boggabri will mark the end of an era as Hassab’s Fashions changes hands and becomes Labels in the Bush from early April.
The Hassab family has been a mainstay in the Boggabri business scene, and this has continued through Wadette, daughter of Tony Hassab, and her husband John Shaw.
Tony Hassab conducted his drapery business in Boggabri from 1942 until 1986, when his daughter Cecilia took over adapting it to women’s fashion, with Wadette conducting her hairdressing salon at the rear of the building, taking over in 1994.
Wadette and John will mark the closure of Hassab’s Fashions on March 30, however, it will reopen on April 7 as Labels in the Bush operated by current staff member Jenny Oliver.
“Thank you to everyone in Boggabri for your continued support,” Wadette said.
“Thank you as well to our out-of-town shoppers as well as our staff over the years.
“It has been a pleasure being here serving people and adding fashion and flair to the town.”

Wadette and John Shaw have operated Hassab’s Fashions for many years. Local business has been in Wadette’s blood, with her father Tony Hassab opening a drapery business in Boggabri in 1942.
Wadette also thanked customers from her former hair salon business.
Wadette said she and John have enjoyed the camaraderie with their customers over the years. Wadette and John will continue to live in the town they love and call home – Boggabri.
And while proud of the continued success of the business, Wadette said now was the right time to let it go.
“We are so grateful that Jen has taken it on,” Wadette said.
“Jen is the right woman for the job. Her integrity is exemplary and she is invested in Boggabri.
“We ask that people support her as she starts her business journey.
“A business is only as good as its customers.”
Jenny has exciting plans for the new business, and is looking to introduce a small range of menswear as well as stocking fashion for women of all ages.
Loyal Hassab’s Fashions customers can rest assured as Jenny is also looking to stock many of Wadette’s trusted and popular labels.

Jenny Oliver is looking forward to the launch of Labels in the Bush on April 7.
Labels in the Bush will start with a grand opening on Monday, April 7, with everyone invited to celebrate with drinks as well as a cake cutting at 11am.
In the meantime, Hassab’s Fashions is holding a below cost sale.
All stock across fashion and shoes must go to make way for the new business.
Extended hours for the sale will take place, on Thursday and Friday, March 20 and 21, 8.30am to 6pm and Saturday, March 22, 8.30am to 3pm.
